Banshee Match Reports 03
vs. South Jersey 3/16/03
This Sunday’s Scrimmage was against the South Jersey. This was our first contest of this year for that matter the first ever for the Hibernian Banshees and South Jersey. We did a lot of good things during this contest, but there is still some work that needs to be done. The Coaching staff was very prod of the effort put forth on this first beautiful day of March. We look forward to the rest of this season. Next week we have Warwick at home.

vs. Warwick 3/23/03
The Banshees hosted Warwick and played a very good match with eleven dressed girls and four guests. All the guests played in the forwards. It was their first game. Captain Laura Hatrock led her team well. Aubrie and Becky Warrington led the forward attack. The middle of the backfield was asked to play hard in new positions and they did that. Jen Reedman and Lindsey Kanter did an outstanding job all around the field. First half score 0-15. In the second half we were given four experienced forwards and our attacks were greater than in the first with several phases of football being launched. Lineouts and Set Pieces were won quite frequently. Jen Reedman scored out first try of the season on a nice run down the sideline. Hatrock’s conversion attempt missed. #8 Becky Warrington (Player of the Match) led attack after attack from the back of the scrums scored our second try. Lindsey Kanter made the difficult conversion 12-15. We played a short 3rd half and called it quits. Great job girls. We will build on this!!!!!

vs. Media 4/06/03
The Banshees hosted Media and this was our first match that we had a full side for the match. Since Media was short two players we loaned them one a played fourteen a side, not using a weak side wing. We should not let the out come of this match get us down. From all reports we played tough, real tough. However, most of this effort was an individual one and not as a team. Remember we are stronger together than you are alone. We need to concentrate on attacking in pairs to support the ball at all times.
Player of the match: Katie Dixon. She stepped up and played for the other team in her first rugby match, she did everything that she was asked to do. Nice job Katie. Next Up, the Long Island Ultimate Rugby Tournament, make sure that you contact the coaching staff to let them know about your availability.

The Ultimate Rugby Tournament Report
by: Jen Reedman
vs. West Hampton 04/12/03
This weekend’s tournament was an excellent experience for the Banshees as a team. The drive up to Long Island gave us time to bond as a team, as we had not spent much time off the field together before. We arrived at the field and the East Stroudsburg University Women’s coach needed some girls to play for his team. The ESU coach by the way is Coach Castner’s son, Kevin Castner. So, Jen Reedman, Aubrie Goodnoe, Laura Veisz and Christina Renzulli stood in as guest players for the East Stroudsburg side vs. Fairfield University. Playing in a college level game gave a lot of insight and knowledge to how the game of rugby is played, and the rest of the girls learned a lot too from watching and cheering on their teammates. Next the Banshees played a team from New York, East ( or was it West?) Islip. This team only showed up with a total of 4 girls, so we loaned them a few players and played 7 a side rugby. Check the stats form this match below. After this game, the banshees cheered on the Bulls, and then everyone returned to the hotel. The next morning we piled back into the vans and returned to the fields to see the boy’s team win their last match to take 3rd place in the tournament. We then drove down to Blue Bell, PA., along the way picking up the few players who were unable to make the tournament, and then played Lansdale Catholic.

vs. Lansdale Catholic 4/13/03
Sunday’s match against Lansdale Catholic the Banshees won a tough match by a score of 25-0. The game was played with uncontested scrums throughout the entire match as requested by the L. C. coach. Our girls started slow understandably as they were trapped in a van for 5 hours with no food and very little water. We were able to gather 16 of the areas finest girl rugby players to take it to the L.C. girls.
The opening score was a penalty kick made by Lindsey Kanter who played flanker for the first time. Five minutes later Lindsey scored our first try of the match 8-0. She was unable to convert the try. Play was quite tough for the remaining time of the match. The L.C. girls really seemed unorganized as they played the ball off the ground a lot and committed several high (dangerous) tackles. The referee didn't seem to notice the high tackles and our girls were getting frustrated. Halftime score 8-0 favor of the Banshees.
The second half saw our Banshees came out and rumbled through the L.C. girls the rest of the way. Our #8 Becky Warrington scored three tries, one converted by Lindsey Kanter to make the score 25-0. Outstanding players were Laura Veisz (flanker) Lauren Coppotelli (2nd row who lost part of a tooth in a melee at the end of the match), Becky Marseglia (scrumhalf) also had a good game as did Flyhalf Laura Hatrock and centers Amy Feldman and Christina Renzulli. Fullback Jen Reedman was solid back there for us. Katie Ashmore and Sandy Young made a lot of good runs for us. Player of the Match was Becky Warrington.
Our girls overcame a lot of bad things during the course of the game and rose to the occasion. I am very proud of the way you played together and the way you supported one another. What a tremendous effort by you all of you. I would like to thank the parents of our girls for outstanding supporting of the team. You all have really great kids and I am so proud of everyone of them. Coach Murph.

vs. Media United 4/13/03
Developmental Championship
On Sunday, the Banshees played the last match of the season against Developmental Champions Media United at West Chester Hendersons Field. Coach Conners and I would loke to thank all of the girls, parents and friends who came to support our girls. The girls chose to play this game under the most difficult of circumstances and I respect them for that decision.
The outcome of the game was in the range of a whole lot to a whole little 49-0. We played the entire game down one girl and more than half of the match down two girls. I feel we could have done much better if we all had been there but many of us had prior committments.
After having been with the new Banshees club for three plus months I have seen quite alot. I want you all to know how proud I am of you all. You have earned my respect as Good People first and Rugby Players second. I want you to try and make good decisions when things come your way. Pay attention in school and support one another always. Congratulations Banshees for making High School Girls Rugby a reality in Lower Bucks County!
